  1. One part of Scalar that felt easiest was the option to add Annotations to media like text because it was pretty straightforward, and it feels like a technique that I’ve had experience with before.
  2. The part of Scalar that felt most difficult or confusing was “Insert Scalar Media Link” and “Insert Inline Scalar Media Link” because the difference one would think that they are the same thing, yet they aren’t.
  3. Of all the features covered in the videos, I am most excited to apply annotations to the media that I include, which will add important context and make my point(s) more easily understandable for viewers.

  5. I will use the black and white photos pulled from the book itself, possibly with links to similar photos/stories in the US during the late forties, and annotations—maybe personal—about the specific image on the screen.
  6. I will gather information like Background information of the author Inez Hogan and historical information on the state of Racism/Racial Bias during the time of the story’s original release in 1947.
  7. I plan on dedicating entire pages to the images/topic that I choose to talk about
  8. I need to think more about the table of contents and potential subsections.

  1. Hi Allison, it’s good that you find annotations to the media is easy to do. I like the annotations, but I don’t find it that easy to do. Inserting the media link is also something that can be challenging. I also believe the annotations can be outstanding in the project as it gives you the ability to express yourself about different part of the project. The black and white photo should work based on your project; it will make it more obvious that it was pictures related to that time period. You should be able to find valuable information about racism/racial bias because that has been going on from that time period to present time. Your project will be so exciting, can’t wait to see the finished product.

  2. Hey Allison,

I’m surprised that you found adding annotations so intuitive, I thought the fact that annotations require their own page a bit confusing.

I agree with your suggestion that there should have been better explanations of the differences in adding links and adding inline links.

I think adding links “to similar photos/stories” will go a long way in reinforcing the message you are trying to convey in your project, especially since you plan on dedicating entire pages to one image.

  3. Allison,
I’m looking forward to seeing your project develop. I agree that the specific terminology that Scalar uses that be confusing at first, since it’s so idiosyncratic. Hopefully more time with the platform will mitigate this! We will go over the difference between the insert media types in class today.
