Digital Project

  1. The only part of Scalar I felt was remotely accessible was the placement of pictures and the table of contents. But the actual structure of Scalar was very annoying to me, honestly. Even with the video tutorial, I felt lost due to how much you can do on it, but it takes a lot of time and energy to understand the unique structure and development introduced to someone like me whos trying to create a digital board of generic information about manga. But it was fun to see myself having a sort of structure in Scalar.
  2. The unit in creating a page and placement of photos to a degree.
  3. I find the making of table contents more unique and fun instead of creating a board or outline on the pages because then when I want to connect different pages in order to show a connection, it becomes challenging.
  4. Annotate the different types of Manga based on their age group. (Also, structuring the different colorization and texture within different manga outlets.) Also, censorship between manga and anime.

  1. hi
I agree with you the videos were overwhelming due to all the information and all you can do with Scalar, I look forward to today’s workshop. Hopefully it will answer any questions we may have and become a little more comfortable with Scalar.

  2. Hey Kehinde,

It doesn’t sound you enjoyed the tutorials too much, that’s too bad. There was quite a bit of information in those tutorials, and I can see how it can seem overwhelming. I, personally, had to try certain features several times before I really understood how they worked. Hopefully it will become easier and more intuitive as we use it more and more.

I really look forward to learning about the differentiation between the various types of manga/anime that you mention.

  3. Kehinde,
I’m interested in seeing this project develop, but I need more information on the primary sources the project is remediating. Are you and Sharwane working on editing or commenting on at least one example to illustrate the different manga types? How far back (historically) are you going? Make sure you are able to download and update images that have permissions for fair use.
