For our first blog I’d like you to reflect on your relationship with books as both textual and material objects. Here are some questions I’d like you to consider, in no particular order:
- What is your relationship to books? Do you like them? Dislike them? Prefer new/old ones? Choose them by cover? What is the first book you remember interacting with?
- Look around your home. How many books are there around? What condition are they in? Do you remember where you (or your family) bought them? Are there any books that are special to you? Describe one.
- If you can, take a shelfie — that is, a picture of you in front of your books — and include it in this post.
- Finally, I’d like you to reflect on other forms of knowledge. What differs a book, in your opinion, from other sources of information and delight? Is there a right type of content, or a right type of mood, that better suits different types of media?
Blog posts should be at least 200-250 words long and engage thoughtfully and meaningfully with the content. All blogs are due before midnight the day before class (Tuesday). Aim to respond to at least 2 peers before class begins (~5:30pm) so we can be ready for engaging discussion.
