- What part of using Scalar felt easiest, or most intuitive to you? Why do you
think that was? The part of scalar that felt easiest to me was uploading images. We are using digital images which is a similar way in which we upload pictures to some content.
- What part of using Scalar felt most difficult or confusing? Were you able to resolve the problem, or are you still stuck?
I was overwhelmed with the metadata. I struggle with this but will be able to get it soon.
- Of all the features covered in the videos, which are you most excited to apply to your project?
I will be excited to apply annotations and media to the project.
- Finally, try to map out the pages and paths you will need to build in our workshop next week:
Consider what kinds of images, links, and annotations you may need to draft (keeping in mind images need to be their own pages, same for annotations).
We will use images of different magna and annotate the images.
Annotate the different types of Manga based on the age group they fall into.
- Make a list of what kinds of information you need to gather and/or write up (e.g. introduction, sources, metadata)
We will have an introduction to the project and a list of sources.
- List the kinds of layouts you may want to include in your project.
We will use the default scalar layout.
- Draft your table of contents, including any subsections that branch out from other pages.

Hi Sharwane,
I’m also really interested in utilizing annotations for this project since I think it allows us to add context to pictures and text without adding it to the actual page of information.
I think it’s a safe bet to use the default scalar layout, and I might do the same thing, especially if trying to make the project more unique is difficult to do, especially since Scalar is a bit difficult to use in some aspects.
Hi Sharwane , I agree adding annotations and media to our project is what I’m most excited about it makes the project more personal and to be able to share that with everyone is cool it’s as if we’re reading the book together. I also agree with you about the overwhelming aspect of scalar but you will get it soon and it will be a well put together project can’t way to see the final results.
Hey Sharwane, I also can’t wait to add the annotations and media to our project because if there’s one thing I know, the censorship between anime and manga is heavy, and there is a strong sense of showing others the difference in texture, colors and other forms of manga design and artist drawing to create and illustrate a well developed and designed story. But I do find overwhelming in Scalar to be annoying, and if I’m honest, it will take time for me to get used to.
Sharwane,
I think annotating the images will help greatly in demonstrating the differences between the different manga styles.
Annotations and media in general are very much the benefit of using Scalar! The metadata sections are optional, but they can be very important for an archiving project and to help keep track of where your sources came from.
