1.) Importing media was intuitive for me because not only I am already familiar with finding and taking something off of Google Images (that includes downloading the image, copying and pasting the URL, or copying and pasting the image itself) but Scalar also makes it simple to provide a link to whatever media you want to import, whether it be an image, a video, or an audio.

2.) One thing that I know I’m going to have trouble with once I get started on my project (and I have to get used to it) is being able to distinguish media files from pages when I’m trying to add a path because Scalar doesn’t always show the thumbnail of a media or the preview of a page. So when I work on my project, I have to be careful and conscious about what is it that I am adding as my path.

3.) The one feature that has given me a certain level of satisfaction is being able to create paths because when you first start on Scalar, you create multiple pages of content and media that you might eventually get lost in the sauce. Paths brings that chaos into order by directing the reader to the specific page that you want in the order that you wanted.

4.) I plan on using images from the book itself. I will also probably pull some images off of Google and various other websites surrounding the Caribbean culture and colonialism (and provide links to their original source). In terms of annotations, I will provide my own description, analysis, or commentary. The introduction will most likely be a summary of the book followed by an analytical breakdown connecting to the wider themes of the Caribbean history and culture. I will devote 2 more pages to include and analyze scholarly articles (or sources that I’ve used before) that talks more in depth about the Caribbean perspective written by the Caribbean authors themselves. I will use the basic Scalar layout because I want the pages to be information-based with a few images scattered here and there.

Table of Content:

  • Introduction
  • Title of Scholarly Article/Source #1 (I need to find it)
  • Title of Scholarly Article/Source #2 (I need to find it)
  • Conclusion
  • Bibliography

5.) Is there an appropriate time or a specific moment where you have to employ “Insert Scalar Media Link” versus “Insert Inline Scalar Media Link”? Which of the two is better? Or it is simply a matter of preference?

  1. Hi Elvis , I agree and express how embedding media was intuitive as well I like how you express gf next steps and hat you should look out for and consider hen continuing with your project. You answer to question four is similar to the route my partner and I are following excited to see the contrast and final results .

  2. Elvis,
I am looking forward to seeing how this project develops. Be sure that all the images you use on the site have appropriate permissions (i.e. are not copyright-protected) and that you cite everything in the metadata.

With regards to paths, on the top left side of the path selection page you can narrow down to only one type — pages, media files, comments, etc. As for the difference between in-line and regular media link: in line will usually display the images as a sidebar, in a column next to the text. “Insert media link” will typically place the media underneath the text or allow you the option to wrap the text around the image.
