Part I:
Question One
Primary source : Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, Jean Blackwell Hutson Research and Reference Division, The New York Public Library. (1943). Adventure in Black and White Retrieved from https://digitalcollections.nypl.org/items/e2ef7f20-71fd-0134-2048-00505686a51c
We plan on digitizing printed materials, such as the content of pages we cover, adding resources and photographs, planning on storing images as downloads and screenshots and also linking them in .
Question Two
The narrative we want this project to explore is an informational yet entertaining piece as we will be providing our own commentary, annotations ,introduction and images or additional resources that connect to the message of our primary source. These resources can range from YouTube links, memes , additional readings etc.
Question Three
Our target audience are children, their parents, educators , and people who are interested in literature or aspiring authors. We want our audience to gain knowledge on the elements of children’s books, its techniques , how to navigate it and its effect on children’s learning and interest. Sharing a little bit of our own experiences .
Question Four
We believe that the project that feels more closely aligned to ours would be digitalbookhistory.com/littlegidding/ because the style of this project from the images to the menu(table of contents) is very similar to the way we want ours to look. When looking at this page, everything is self explanatory. It is easy to navigate and that is something we both want for our final project. Especially because our audience is children, parents, educators etc. Therefore, we really want it to be easy to read and navigate without it being too overwhelming to get through.
Question Five
The elements of Scalar that seem most appropriate for our project would be a table of contents, annotations and we’ll be using media to make connections to our primary source.
Part 2 :
The material that is included in the website Colored Conventions is a brief introduction of historical events , digital records , welcome page , and additional resources linked that connect to the primary source discussed . On the website The Archeology of Reading the material is slightly different. You have different linked books that are digitized with additional content .You access the materials by clicking scrolling up ,down and turning left or right. We interact with their content by how we access the material in clicks, scroll changing format zoomin etc. the benefits of having these websites are its history tracking and evident records claims that we can study further with the additional sources attached ,commentary and media. The down side of The Archeology of Reading website, some of the primary sources lead you to blank pages and the outdated images are quite hard to see depending on what device you are accessing this site on . One thing that I wanted to do with the Archeology of reading site that I figured out at the last minute is accessing the introduction page. This wasn’t easy as I just started fiddling around pressing anywhere and it just landed me on the introduction page
Hello Diamond,
I really like the idea of adding visuals, your own commentary, and similar resources. I think this is a good idea because not only does it make the project more interactive and personable (with the commentary), but it also shows that you put a lot of thought into thinking of other ways that your guys’ main idea reflects in other media(s).
