If I had to remember the last time I actually read a book it will be in 2019. But even then, growing up, books, reading and writing was my worse enemies. I envy those who learn faster than me. But at the same time I came to understand I was suffering from was educational disability. Severe Receptive and Expressive Language Delay. Did I feel different? A bit. Did that stop me from working on my craft of writing and reading? NOPE!. Books hold meanings. Like us they age, but they age like wine. The older and duster a book gets the more valued it is. And the more people to open it and feel the enjoyment. Books may be a tool of information but in reality there is more to a book than us research and gaining knowledge or insight. When reading a book we share each other thoughts. Our minds are link to the books were reading. Over the course of 6 years, I have collected a number of books. Ranging from comics, manga’s, crime, action, politics so much more. Now I haven’t read at least 10% of what I have. I probably will or won’t. But the sight of seeing all those books makes me realize my love for reading has evolved me into a much better and focus person. I hope one day my own kids will take interest in my book collection but I do plan on expanding it more. But for now I do feel it’s time for me to relax and just read as many as I can.
Reading is a real eye opener. Once you pick a book, your no longer with us. You know the theory of another plan of existence when we sleep or just go into deep thought? OBE(Outer Body Experience) Well it’s the same while were reading or looking for a book that interest you. The books we read, every word on the page swallow us whole. POOF! Were gone just like that. That how my mind always been when it came to reading books. But in today world, where barely anyone goes to the library to get books. Which kind of makes me sad because bookstores or libraries are great places where you can bond with someone over a book. The era of walking in and buying physical copies of a books is dead in my opinion. To many ways online of getting what you want. But with time comes patience’s and some people don’t have that. I remember waiting for a new Dragon Ball Super Manga to drop in the store. I was so excited but at the same time I was debating whether I should buy it online. But something told me to go in store and buy it. To my surprise there was line for the copy. I was shock but were spoiling each other but, I was glad to see others who believe in going in-person for book rather than waiting days for shipment. We bonded on the line about what expect to read and what happen. Mostly all my books are physically bought and given to me 95% of them were.
But honestly my love for books are still shaky as ever, despite me having so many. In the photos those are only half of my collection. But I still prefer to read Webtoons over books. Because of how visual they are and the stories are gripping. From our previous class talk, Webtoons, Blogs, Podcast, Ted-Talks, in some way are like books Ted-Talks and Podcast are more visual speaking but it’s also like auto-biography in-person. Blogs is shared opinion online but has a certain number of words. Webtoons though are cartoon drawn comic style story-telling. It gives readers the visionary aspect of seeing the action or story like their watching it on TV. There are many different outlooks on how to classify something as a book. But to me if it connects with you, draws you in, tells a story and have witnesses/fans. A beginning, middle and end. It’s a book.
Our lives are basically books. Me, you are books, but in a different form.
Hey,
I love your picture of your book collection and the stuff animals on top of them makes it even perfect . It’s authentic and some how I feel like that represents your relationship whit books they are your comfort spaces . I like how you express your liking for bookstores and libraries I feel like they aren’t just for reading but as you stated places to meet people. That is true for myself I hung out and made bonds with my closest friends there. Lastly your turn around for enjoying reading and writing now is commendable , from reading your piece reading and writing is your thing. Good read.
Thank you so much 😀
Hi!
Thank you for sharing a little personal information about yourself. I’m so glad that you didn’t let your disability define you and stop you from working on your craft of writing and reading. I also agree with you books age like wine, the older and duster a book is the more value it holds. I have yet to read a really old book, but definitely will get into reading more once I’m done with school. I also enjoyed seeing your book collection and the Pokemon sitting on top of the books! I loveee Pokemon! Great post!
No problem, always happy to share and thank you as well 😀 Lol, Pokémon is childhood and will always be. I’ll never grow out of it to be honest lol
Kehinde, I think it’s always a sign of a good reader that they have tons of books they haven’t read yet! It just shows our passion for learning and collecting knowledge. I think it’s really interesting here how you go between predicting no one will buy books in a physical store anymore to reflecting the community you built the last time you stood in line for the latest manga! If you go to The Strand or Forbidden Planet next door I think you’ll find that many people are still seeking that pleasure of discovering books (and other book lovers) in person.
I’m intrigued by your point that “The older and duster a book gets the more valued it is.” Why do you think that is?
